Elif Batuman is an American author, academic, and journalist who has been a staff writer at The New Yorker since 2010. She is the author of The Possessed, a memoiristic collection of essays about Russian literature, and the novels The Idiot and Either/Or. Her literary work combines comic observation, intellectual inquiry, and semi-autobiographical storytelling.
