Sylvia Townsend Warner (1893–1978) was an English novelist, poet, short-story writer, musicologist, and literary critic. Her first novel, Lolly Willowes (1926), established her reputation, and she later became especially known for historically informed, politically engaged fiction and short stories published in The New Yorker, including The Corner That Held Them, Winter in the Air, and Kingdoms of Elfin. She also wrote poetry, biography, translations, and literary nonfiction.
