Astrid Lindgren was a Swedish author and screenwriter whose writing career began in 1944 with her debut novel, The Confidences of Britt-Mari. Her 1945 publication of Pippi Longstocking launched an internationally celebrated career in children’s literature, followed by works including the Noisy Village books, Ronia the Robber’s Daughter, and The Brothers Lionheart. She wrote 34 chapter books and 41 picture books, and also served for 24 years as head of children’s fiction at Rabén & Sjögren.
