Diane Setterfield is a British author whose debut novel, The Thirteenth Tale (2006), became a number-one New York Times bestseller and was adapted into a BBC television drama. After studying and teaching French literature, including specializing in André Gide, she left academia in the late 1990s to pursue writing. She is also the author of Bellman & Black and Once Upon a River, and lives in Oxford, England.
