Lauren Hough is a nonfiction writer and essayist born in Germany and raised across seven countries and West Texas. A former U.S. Air Force airman who has worked a wide range of jobs, she became known for candid, witty essays about class, queerness, work, military life, and her upbringing in a cult. She is the author of the New York Times bestselling essay collection Leaving Isn’t the Hardest Thing and the travel memoir Monster of a Land, and her work has appeared in The New York Times, Granta, Texas Highways, HuffPost, and The Guardian.
