Joseph Smith Fletcher (1863–1935), best known as J. S. Fletcher, was an English journalist and prolific author. After studying law, he turned to journalism and went on to publish more than 200 books, including around 120 detective novels. He became a leading writer of Golden Age detective fiction while also producing historical, regional, dialect, and other nonfiction works.
