Z. A. Recht was an American author from West Virginia who built his writing career around the Morningstar Strain, a post-apocalyptic zombie-fiction series. He published Plague of the Dead in 2006 and Thunder and Ashes in 2008; Survivors, drafted before his death in 2009, was completed with Thom Brannan and published posthumously in 2012.
