Albert Camus (1913–1960) was a French-Algerian novelist, playwright, essayist, journalist, and editor whose writing explored absurdity, freedom, rebellion, and moral responsibility. His major works include The Stranger, The Plague, The Myth of Sisyphus, The Rebel, and Caligula; he also worked extensively in theater and political journalism. Camus received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1957.
