Mo Hayder was the pen name of British author Clare Damaris Bastin, later Clare Dunkel. After working in acting, film, security, education, and as a hostess in Tokyo, she began her writing career with Birdman, published in 2000. She became known for bestselling, intensely dark Jack Caffery crime novels and standalone thrillers that combine graphic violence, psychological tension, and horror elements.
