Masha Gessen is a Russian-American author, journalist, and translator whose nonfiction examines Russian and American politics, authoritarianism, human rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and social change. They are the author of eleven nonfiction books, including The Future Is History, which won the 2017 National Book Award for Nonfiction, as well as The Man Without a Face, The Brothers, Words Will Break Cement, and Surviving Autocracy. Gessen has written for The New Yorker, The New York Times, and The New York Review of Books.
