James L. Sutter is an American author, game designer, and musician who co-created the Pathfinder and Starfinder roleplaying games and served as Starfinder’s original creative director. He is the author of the adult fantasy novels Death's Heretic and The Redemption Engine, as well as the queer young-adult romances Darkhearts and The Ghost of Us. His short fiction, comics, and game writing have appeared in publications and media including Nightmare, The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, and Machine of Death.
