Eliza Haywood (c.1693–1756) was a prolific English writer, actress, publisher, and one of the leading female authors of the early eighteenth century. Her career began with the amatory novel Love in Excess in 1719 and encompassed novels, plays, poetry, translations, satire, conduct literature, periodicals, and political writing. She published more than seventy works, often anonymously, and remained active in print until her death.
