Isaac Rosenberg (1890–1918) was an English-Jewish poet and painter best known for his vivid, unsentimental poetry of the First World War. He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, published poetry independently before the war, and wrote acclaimed trench poems including “Break of Day in the Trenches” and “Dead Man’s Dump.” He was killed on the Western Front in April 1918, and his work was published extensively posthumously.
