Jessica Mitford (1917–1996) was a British-American writer and investigative journalist whose career combined memoir, social criticism, and political activism. She first gained recognition with Hons and Rebels, followed by the influential exposé The American Way of Death, which established her as a prominent muckraker. Her later nonfiction examined prisons, childbirth, funeral practices, and American institutions, while Decca collects her letters.
