William Gibson is an American-Canadian speculative fiction writer and essayist whose writing career began in the late 1970s. His debut novel, Neuromancer (1984), helped establish cyberpunk and popularized the concept of cyberspace, earning the Hugo, Nebula, and Philip K. Dick Awards. He later wrote the Sprawl, Bridge, Blue Ant, and Jackpot series, explored steampunk with Bruce Sterling in The Difference Engine, and increasingly blended science fiction with contemporary social and technological themes.
