Nancy Kress is an American speculative-fiction author whose first published story appeared in 1976 and whose first novel, The Prince of Morning Bells, followed in 1981. She became a full-time science-fiction writer in 1990, gaining major recognition for the Hugo- and Nebula-winning Beggars in Spain and subsequently publishing numerous novels, short-story collections, and works on writing. Her fiction often explores genetic engineering, biotechnology, ethics, and social change, and she has also taught writing and contributed as a Writer’s Digest columnist.
