Ian McDonald is a British science-fiction author born in Manchester in 1960 who moved to Northern Ireland as a child and lives near Belfast. His first novel, Desolation Road, was published in 1988, launching an award-winning career that includes River of Gods, Brasyl, The Dervish House, and the Luna trilogy. He has won the Philip K. Dick Award, Locus Award, Hugo Award, BSFA Awards, and was named a Grand Master of Science Fiction by the European Science Fiction Society in 2019.
